Cover Letter A cover letter is required only to disclose any use of artificial intelligence and to indicate if an editor from the journal is a co-author or contributor. Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusion.
Manuscript The main body of the manuscript should be around 5,000 words excluding the title, author names and affiliations, abstract, keywords, figures, tables and references. The manuscript should be divided into Title page, Abstract, lay summary and up to six keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding, Conflict of interest, References, Figure legends, Appendices, Tables and Figures, and it must include a graphical abstract. The manuscript must include a lay summary of no more than 250 words consisting of one sentence summary and two bullet points of key findings, up to six keywords, a graphical abstract, and a full explanation of any artificial intelligence use in the Methods or Acknowledgements section.
References The manuscript may include up to 100 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be cited in the text with Arabic numerals in order of citation and list the first six authors followed by et al. when there are more than six authors.
