Original Research

Cover Letter Original Research submissions must include a covering letter. The covering letter must provide the corresponding author’s full contact details and include statements of originality, all-author approval, ethical approval body, financial or other declarable relationships, and any abstract, poster, or oral presentation details.
Abstract Original Research articles must include a structured abstract. The abstract must be no more than 200 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract should use the headings Background, Research design and methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Original Research articles must include the sections introduction, patients and methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. Original Research articles must include 4–6 keywords in alphabetical order as well as title page, acknowledgements, author contributions, disclosure form, and disclosure statement sections.
References References must follow the journal’s NLM reference guide. References must be full, comprehensive, accurate, up to date, and annotated with one or two asterisks plus a brief explanatory sentence for papers or patents identified as of interest.
Figures & Tables A maximum of five figures and five tables is permitted. Tables must present new information, be interpretable without reference to the text, and be supplied as editable files.
