Pharmaceutical Biology is a peer-reviewed, open access journal publishing research on natural medicines and drugs, biologically active natural products or their derivatives, and complex traditional medicine formulas. It covers natural product research related to pharmaceutical biology, including drug discovery and development, quality control of herbal medicines, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, toxicity, clinical studies, biosynthesis, and biocatalysis. The journal accepts research articles, reviews, perspectives, short communications, data note, and methods, and operates a single anonymized peer review policy.

Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is mandatory for Research Articles. The cover letter must briefly explain the significance of the work and its key findings and state whether the submission is new or a resubmission, including the original manuscript ID and changes made if it is a resubmission.
Abstract Research Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Objective, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion.
Manuscript The manuscript must be ordered as Title page, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Ethical approval, Declaration of Interest Statement, Author Contributions statement, Data Availability Statement, References, Appendices as appropriate, Table(s) with caption(s) on individual pages, Figures, and Figure captions as a list. Research Articles must include 3 to 5 keywords, and the Discussion must begin with the major findings and end with the implications or applications of the findings, with any AI use acknowledged in the paper.
References References may be in any style or format provided a consistent scholarly citation format is used. All bibliographic entries must have a corresponding in-text citation.
Figures & Tables Tables with captions must appear on individual pages and figures and figure captions must be placed after the references and appendices in the manuscript order, while journal policy also permits figures and tables to be embedded in the text or submitted separately. Photographs of tumours must include a ruler, raw western blot data must be provided as a supplemental file, and any image modifications must be disclosed in the manuscript and figure legend.
