Original Research
Cover Letter
A covering letter is required for Original Research submissions. The covering letter must provide the corresponding author’s full contact details and include statements of originality, all authors’ approval and ICMJE compliance, ethical approval, and any financial or other declarable relationships including sources of support.
Abstract
A brief structured abstract is required on the second page. The abstract must not exceed 200 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Research design and methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript
The manuscript must include the sections introduction, patients and methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. The manuscript must include 4–6 keywords in alphabetical order, an author contributions statement, an acknowledgements section, a Disclosure Form, and a title page.
References
References must use the NLM reference style. References must be full, comprehensive, accurate, up to date, and should use primary sources wherever possible while keeping unpublished data to a minimum.
Figures & Tables
Figures must not exceed five and tables must not exceed five. Tables must present new information, be interpretable without reference to the text, and be supplied as editable files.

Abstract
A structured abstract is required for Review articles. The abstract must not exceed 200 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Introduction, Areas covered, and Expert Opinion/Commentary in that order.
Manuscript
The body of the Review article must not exceed 7000 words. The manuscript must include Introduction, a body section with numbered subsections, a distinct Conclusion appearing before a separate Expert Opinion section, and an Expert Opinion section of at least 500 words. The manuscript should include article highlights as a bulleted executive summary and 4-10 keywords in alphabetical order.
References
Review articles should include around 100 references. References must use NLM style. References of particular interest should be annotated with a brief sentence explaining why they are of interest.
Figures & Tables
Review articles may include up to 5 figures and up to 5 tables. Permission documentation for previously published figures must be uploaded alongside the manuscript.

Manuscript
Manuscript must be 1,500–3,000 words excluding figures, tables, and references, and the Expert Opinion section must be 500–1,000 words within that total. Manuscript must include Introduction, Body with numbered subsections, Conclusion, and Expert Opinion sections, with the Conclusion distinct from and placed before the Expert Opinion section. Manuscript must include a brief alphabetical keyword list and article highlights as a bulleted list of five or six key points.
References

Cover Letter
A cover letter is only required to include details of any expert review prior to submission if such review has occurred. If the Plain Language Summary of Publication has undergone expert review prior to submission, the cover letter must include details of that review.
Abstract
Structured abstracts must not be included, but a brief summary may be included at the beginning under the heading "Summary." Any summary included at the beginning under the heading "Summary" must be 250 words or less. A structured abstract is not permitted, and any optional opening summary should appear under the heading "Summary." Any optional opening summary must use the heading "Summary."
Manuscript
Plain Language Summary of Publication articles should be written concisely with a recommended maximum length of 3000 words. The title must include the term "plain language summary," and the article should summarize a single research article published online within the past 2 years in clear, non-technical language. The manuscript must include 5–8 keywords including "plain language summary," declare any competing interests within the manuscript, include clinical trial or other unique registry identifiers where appropriate, and add acknowledgements about any expert review prior to submission if applicable.
References
Only one reference, namely the citation for the original article being summarized, should be included. References must use NLM style. The sole reference should be the citation for the original article being summarized.
Figures & Tables
Null The article should be uploaded as a Word document, and high-resolution image files should be uploaded with the submission while other file types showing text and image arrangement are also welcome. Plain Language Summary of Publication articles may include text and graphics, with an optimal mix of both, but no explicit figure or table formatting constraint relevant to this field is stated.
