Original Research

Cover Letter A covering letter is required for Original Research submissions. The covering letter must provide the corresponding author’s full contact details and include statements of originality, all authors’ approval and ICMJE compliance, ethical approval, and any financial or other declarable relationships including sources of support.
Abstract A brief structured abstract is required on the second page. The abstract must not exceed 200 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Research design and methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript must include the sections introduction, patients and methods, results, discussion, and conclusions. The manuscript must include 4–6 keywords in alphabetical order, an author contributions statement, an acknowledgements section, a Disclosure Form, and a title page.
References References must use the NLM reference style. References must be full, comprehensive, accurate, up to date, and should use primary sources wherever possible while keeping unpublished data to a minimum.
Figures & Tables Figures must not exceed five and tables must not exceed five. Tables must present new information, be interpretable without reference to the text, and be supplied as editable files.
