Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required and must note any use of Large Language Model tools in developing the paper. Cover letter must note any use of Large Language Model tools in developing the paper.
Abstract A structured synopsis is required for Original Research Articles. The synopsis must not exceed 250 words. The synopsis must be structured. The synopsis must use the headings Background (optional), Objectives, Patients and methods (or Methods), Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main text must be limited to 3500 words from the Introduction to the end of the Discussion. The manuscript must be divided into Synopsis, Introduction, Materials (or Patients) and methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding, Transparency declarations and References. The manuscript must include Funding and Transparency declarations sections, all funding sources must be listed in Funding, and any use of Large Language Model tools must be documented in the Methods, Acknowledgments, or another appropriate section.
References References must be cited in the text using sequential superscript numbers after punctuation and listed numerically at the end of the text.
Figures & Tables Tables must be supplied on separate sheets and numbered consecutively, while figures must be numbered in the order cited and accompanied by alt text placed under each figure legend in the main manuscript.

Brief Reports

Cover Letter Cover letter is required if declaring use of Large Language Model tools, prior rejection by the journal, or when submitting important in-press or submitted papers for review. Cover letter must note any Large Language Model tool use and include details and manuscript number for any prior rejected submission plus a point-by-point response to the decision comments.
Abstract A structured synopsis is required for Brief Reports. Abstract must be structured. Synopsis must use the headings Background (optional), Objectives, Patients and methods (or Methods), Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main text must not exceed 1500 words. Brief Reports should follow the same format as Original Research Articles. Manuscript must include a Transparency declarations section before the References section, and any use of Large Language Model tools must be documented in the Methods, Acknowledgments, or another appropriate section.
References Brief Reports may include a maximum of 20 references. References must be cited in the text using sequential superscript numbers placed after punctuation and listed numerically at the end of the text.
Figures & Tables Brief Reports should have no more than two figures or tables. Alt text descriptions must be provided in the main manuscript file directly under each figure legend and preceded by 'Alt text:'.
