Original Research

Cover Letter Cover letter is required and must include the four ICMJE statements, disclose any artificial intelligence contribution and its nature, substantiate each author's contribution if there are more than four authors, include any request for expedited review with rationale, and denote proper ethical oversight. Cover letter must state that the paper is not under consideration elsewhere, has not been previously published, has been read and approved by all authors, and discloses any potential conflict of interest or states that none exist, while also disclosing any artificial intelligence contribution and its nature, substantiating each author's contribution if there are more than four authors, including any expedited review request with rationale, and denoting proper ethical oversight.
Abstract Abstract is required for Original Research. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5,000 words including references and figure legends. Text must be structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions, with study limitations at the end of the Discussion section and Clinical Perspectives listed after the text and before the acknowledgments and references. Manuscript must include a Central Illustration called out in the body with a title, caption, and legend, include Clinical Perspectives, provide no more than 6 key words and no more than 10 abbreviations on a separate page following the abstract, and disclose any artificial intelligence contribution in the acknowledgments section.
References References must follow AMA style with minor modifications. References must be cited with superscript numerals and numbered consecutively in order of mention, list all authors when there are 6 or fewer or the first 3 followed by et al. when there are more than 6, omit periods after author initials, use Index Medicus journal abbreviations, and avoid citing personal communications, unpublished data, or abstracts older than 2 years.
Figures & Tables Manuscript must include a Central Illustration. All supplemental materials except videos and large data sets must be uploaded separately as one Word document labeled Supplemental Appendix. Central Illustration must be labeled as "Central Illustration" rather than a numbered figure, must be original, must not duplicate other figures, and must be accompanied by a legend with a title and caption.
