Original Paper

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Papers. The abstract must not exceed 450 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words, excluding author metadata, references, multimedia appendices, and figure content. Original Papers must include Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, Funding Statement, Conflicts of Interest, Data Availability, Author Contributions, Abbreviations, References, and an optional Multimedia Appendix, with further subheadings in the Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections. The manuscript must include 5-10 keywords, an Abbreviations section for abbreviations used three or more times, a Funding Statement, Conflicts of Interest, Author Contributions, and a disclosure of whether generative AI was used.
References References must follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 11th Edition. References must be listed in numerical order corresponding to in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier such as a DOI, PMID, ISBN, or functional URL with access date.
Figures & Tables Each table or textbox must be placed directly after the paragraph that first mentions it. Pie charts, word clouds, and simple bar graphs are not permitted as figures.

Manuscript Main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words, excluding author metadata, references, multimedia appendices, and figure content. Manuscript must use IMRD main headings: Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Manuscript must include 5-10 keywords, a disclosure of any generative AI use, a Funding section, a conflicts of interest statement, an Authors' Contributions section in CRediT format, an alphabetical list of abbreviations used three or more times, and the article type at the beginning of the manuscript before the title.
References References must follow American Medical Association Manual of Style, 11th Edition. References must be numbered in the order cited in the text, must not use footnotes, must use sentence case for article titles, and must include at least one unique identifier such as a DOI, PMID, ISBN, or functional URL with access date.
Figures & Tables Reviews should include one flow diagram figure of study selection in the Results section. Each table must be placed directly after the paragraph that first mentions it. Tables must be created using Word's built-in Table feature in portrait orientation, and figure captions and table captions must be clear and define any abbreviations, colors, or symbols used.

Research Letter

Cover Letter A cover letter must be submitted.

Abstract An abstract is required for Case Reports. Abstract must not exceed 450 words. Abstract should be unstructured unless data are presented, in which case it should be structured. Structured abstracts must use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main body should aim for a maximum of 10,000 words. Manuscript may use either an unstructured format with logical descriptive major headings or a structured IMRD format with Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Include 5-10 keywords or key phrases, disclose whether generative AI was used, list abbreviations used three or more times alphabetically at the end, and state the article type at the beginning of the manuscript just before the title.
References References must follow the American Medical Association Manual of Style, 11th Edition. References must be listed in numerical order corresponding to in-text citations and include at least one unique identifier for each reference.

Abstract Abstract must not exceed 450 words. For most article types, a structured abstract is required. Structured abstracts should use the headings Background, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Aim for a maximum of 10,000 words in the main body. Letter To The Editor must comment on a previously published article in a JMIR Publications journal and must not be a brief research report. State the article type at the beginning of the manuscript before the title, provide 5-10 keywords or key phrases, disclose any generative AI use, include Funding and Conflicts of Interest sections, use CRediT-format Authors' Contributions, and list abbreviations used three or more times alphabetically at the end of the manuscript.
