It publishes original articles, review articles, special articles, clinical reports, short communications, letters to the editor, and book and multimedia reviews on anesthesia and related topics from any country of the world. Journal of Anesthesia accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.
Original Articles
Cover Letter
Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract
Original Articles must include an abstract. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract headings must be Purpose, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
Manuscript
Manuscript must not exceed 4,000 words. Manuscript text must be divided into Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Acknowledgments sections. Title page must include 3–5 key words, the manuscript word count, and the number of tables and figures.
References
References must use Vancouver style. References must be numbered consecutively in the order cited in the text, enclosed in brackets, and list all authors without using "et al.".
Figures & Tables
Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if manuscript file size causes upload problems. Tables must be created using the word-processing program's table function rather than spreadsheets.
Review Articles
Cover Letter
Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract
Review Articles must include an unstructured abstract. The abstract must not exceed 200 words. The abstract must be nonstructured and consist of one complete paragraph.
Manuscript
Review Articles must not exceed 5,000 words. The manuscript should follow the headings Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The title page must include 3–5 key words, the manuscript word count, and the numbers of tables and figures, and Review Articles should include a statement identifying who had the idea for the article, who performed the literature search and data analysis, and who drafted and/or critically revised the work.
References
References must use Vancouver style. References must be numbered consecutively in the order cited in the text, enclosed in brackets, and each journal reference must list all authors without using "et al.".
Figures & Tables
Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if manuscript file size causes upload problems. Tables must be created using the word-processing program's table function rather than spreadsheets.
Clinical Reports

Short Communications may include no more than two figures or tables. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if upload problems occur. Tables must be created using the table functions of the word-processing program rather than spreadsheets.
Letters To The Editor

Manuscript
Letters To The Editor must not exceed 1200 words including any table, figure, and references. Letters To The Editor must begin with "To the Editor:". The title page must include keywords limited to 70 letters including spaces and middle dots.
