Journal of Diabetes and its Complications is a journal for health care practitioners and researchers that publishes original research on the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of diabetes mellitus and its complications, as well as physiological and molecular aspects of glucose homeostasis. It covers basic, translational, clinical, and epidemiologic research across the spectrum from early prediabetes to late-stage complicated diabetes, including pancreatic islet dysfunction, insulin resistance, adipose and neuronal mechanisms, and diabetic complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy, vascular disease, coronary heart disease, renal failure, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.

Original Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Original Research Articles must include an abstract. Abstract must not exceed 200 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Keywords.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5000 words. Manuscript must be organized as Title Page, Structured Abstract, Introduction, Subjects, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, and figures and tables with legends. Manuscript must include 1 to 7 English keywords and, if AI tools were used for manuscript preparation, a separate AI declaration statement before the references.
References Reference list may include up to 50 references. References must be cited in the text using superscript Arabic numerals and listed in numerical order of appearance.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may total no more than five combined. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while figures and tables with legends must also appear as part of the manuscript structure. Tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images, and any AI-generated explanatory image must disclose the AI tool use in its caption.

Review Articles

Abstract Review Articles must include a summary. The summary must not exceed 200 words.
Manuscript Review Articles must be no longer than 5000 words. Review Articles must use subheadings in the text to highlight the content of different sections. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords in English and, if AI tools were used for manuscript preparation, a separate AI declaration statement immediately before the references.
References Review Articles may include up to 75 references. References must be cited in the text using superscript Arabic numerals in order of appearance, and the reference list must be numbered in that same order with journal names abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include a combined maximum of five figures or tables. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables are submitted within the manuscript as editable text. Figures and tables must be cited in the text in numerical order, and each must have a caption or legend.
