The Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery (JOGS) is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal focused on the latest developments in gastrointestinal surgery. Published twelve times per year, it includes original research publications, short research communications, subject reviews, gastrointestinal images, video surgical descriptions, letters to the editor, and other material relevant to surgery of the digestive tract. It is the official publication of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Original Articles. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the subheadings Background or Purpose, Methods, Results, and Discussion or Conclusion.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 6,000 words including the abstract, text, figures and table legends, and references. Body of the manuscript must be organized as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. Manuscript must include 3 to 5 key words at the bottom of the abstract and a declaration of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process at the end of the manuscript before the references if such tools were used.
References References must be cited in order of appearance using Arabic numbers in square brackets, and journal abbreviations must conform to Cumulated Index Medicus.
Figures & Tables Tables must appear after the references, figure legends must be included in the manuscript file after the references, figures must appear after the figure legends, and figures must be uploaded separately. A graphical abstract is optional for initial submission of Original Articles but mandatory for revisions and must be submitted as a separate file named 'Graphical Abstract'.

Figures & Tables Tables must appear after the references, figure legends must be included in the manuscript file after the references, and figures must be uploaded separately. Tables and figures must be numbered with Arabic numerals and cited in the text in consecutive numerical order.
