Original Research

Cover Letter Cover letter must include a statement of ethical approval and, if applicable, any request and rationale for expedited review; it must also disclose any use of artificial intelligence programs in the work.
Abstract Original Research articles must include a structured abstract of no more than 350 words with the headings: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions. A condensed, unstructured abstract of no more than 100 words stressing clinical implications is also required.
Manuscript Original Research manuscripts must not exceed 5,000 words including text from introduction through conclusion, references, and figure legends, and excluding abstract, clinical perspectives, and tables.
References Personal communications, manuscripts in preparation, preprints, and other unpublished data must not be used as numbered references; websites must be cited as references and abstracts older than 2 years should not be cited.
Figures & Tables The main manuscript file must include tables but not figures; figures and supplemental material must be uploaded separately, and any previously published figures or tables require written permission and a cited source in the legend or footnote.
