Original Research

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Original Research articles must include a structured abstract. The structured abstract must be 300 words. The abstract must be structured as four labeled paragraphs. The abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Basic Original Research is limited to 4500 words and Clinical Original Research is limited to 3500 words for the main text including Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The manuscript must include Title Page, Structured Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Disclosures, Funding, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, Data Sharing Statement, References, tables with legends, figure legends in the manuscript text file, figures as individual figure files, and optional Supplemental Material PDF. Original Research articles must include 3 key points, each written as a complete past-tense sentence of no more than 140 characters including spaces.
References Original Research articles have no reference limit. References must follow AMA style. References must list all authors unless there are more than 6, in which case the first 3 authors should be listed followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles may include up to 6 figures and up to 6 tables. Tables with legends and figure legends must appear in the manuscript text file, and figures must be provided as individual figure files.
