Journal of the World Federation of Orthodontists (JWFO) is a bimonthly international peer-reviewed journal publishing scientific research from orthodontics and related fields. Its goal is to contribute to the scientific base of orthodontics and to the education and continuing education of professionals worldwide, with articles selected for originality, importance, clinical relevance, timeliness, and meaningful conclusions. Accepted articles are stringently evaluated and peer-reviewed for scientific merit, ethical compliance, and clinical relevance.

Research Articles
Cover Letter
A cover letter signed by all authors is mandatory. The cover letter must include the corresponding author's affiliation, postal or mail address, email address, and telephone number.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be structured with the headings Background, methods, results, and conclusions. Abstract headings must be Background, methods, results, and conclusions.
Manuscript
Text must not exceed 4000 words excluding abstract, tables, figures, acknowledgments, and references. Manuscript must include Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, and References, with the introduction stating an objective or hypothesis and the discussion addressing study limitations and implications for clinical practice or health policy. Highlights of 3 to 5 bullet points are mandatory in a separate editable file, up to 5 MeSH-based keywords are required, an Author Contributions section and CRediT author statement are required, and any use of generative AI in writing must be declared in a section before the references.
References
References must number no more than 20-30. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, cited with Arabic numbers in square brackets, and journal titles must use MEDLINE abbreviations.
Figures & Tables
No more than 6 tables and figures combined are permitted. Tables must be submitted as separate text-based files, figures must be uploaded individually and not embedded in the manuscript, and any items beyond the combined limit of six must be submitted as supplementary files. Tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals and cited in the text, and figure legends must be provided on a separate page.
Clinical Trials
Cover Letter
A cover letter signed by all authors is mandatory. The cover letter must include complete contact information for the corresponding author, including affiliation, postal or mail address, email address, and telephone number.
Abstract
A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the trial registration number at the end of the abstract.
Manuscript
The manuscript must not exceed 3500-4000 words. The manuscript must include Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, and References sections, and it must clearly state an objective or hypothesis, describe design and methods, interventions, outcome measures and results, and discuss the findings in context with limitations and conclusions. Highlights consisting of 3 to 5 bullet points no longer than 85 characters each are mandatory, up to 5 keywords are allowed, an Author Contributions section is required, any use of generative AI in writing must be declared in a section placed before the references, and the subtitle must include the phrase "A Randomized or Controlled Clinical Trial".
References
No more than 25 references are allowed. References must be numbered consecutively in the order cited and identified in the text, tables, or legends by Arabic numbers in square brackets, with journal titles abbreviated according to MEDLINE style.
Figures & Tables
No more than 5 total tables and figures are allowed. Tables must be submitted as separate text-based files, figures must be submitted individually as separate files and not embedded in the manuscript, and any figures and tables beyond the journal’s combined limit of six must be submitted as supplementary files. Tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals in the order cited and each table must be cited in the text, while figures must be numbered consecutively in the order cited and figure legends must be provided on a separate page.
Systematic Reviews With Or Without Meta-Analysis
Cover Letter
A cover letter signed by all authors is mandatory. The cover letter must include complete contact information for the corresponding author, including affiliation, postal or mail address, email address, and telephone number.
Abstract
An abstract is required for meta-analyses. Meta-analyses must use a structured abstract. The abstract for meta-analyses must include the headings Importance, objectives, data sources, study selection, data extraction and synthesis, main outcome(s) and measure(s), results, conclusion and relevance, and the registration number at the end of the abstract.
Manuscript
The manuscript must not exceed 3500-4000 words. The manuscript must include Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, and References sections and must describe the search and selection process and the specific study or analysis type, population, intervention, exposure, and tests or outcomes for each article or data source. The submission must include highlights in a separate editable file with 3 to 5 bullet points, up to 5 MeSH-based keywords, an Author Contributions section, and any generative AI declaration in a new section before the references list.
References
The manuscript must have no more than 40-50 references. References must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance, cited with Arabic numbers in square brackets, and journal titles must be abbreviated according to MEDLINE style.

Brief Reports should be 800-1200 words. The main manuscript text must include Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, Author Contributions, and References sections. The submission must include highlights with 3 to 5 bullet points, a maximum of 5 keywords, an Author Contributions section, and an AI declaration section before the references if generative AI was used in writing.
