Metabolic Brain Disease publishes basic and clinical papers on a broad range of brain disorders in human and animal studies, including conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, myelin disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, toxic encephalopathies, genetic diseases affecting the brain, alcohol and brain metabolism, neuroendocrinopathies, encephalitides, nutritional disorders affecting the brain, neurotransmitter diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The journal serves neuroscientists, psychiatrists, neurologists, pathologists, and related specialists, and considers research papers, short communications, review articles, and editorials.

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript Research Papers typically have a length of 6000 words. Research Papers require a disclosure statement, 4 to 6 keywords, and documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or another suitable part of the manuscript.
References Research Papers typically include 60 references. References must be cited in the text by name and year in parentheses. Reference list entries must include only works cited in the text, be alphabetized by the last name of the first author, and include full DOI links when available.
Figures & Tables Research Papers have a total limit of 8 figures and tables. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, but large figures may be submitted separately if file size causes upload problems. Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively, cited in the text in numerical order, and each must have a caption.
