Molecular Oncology is an open access journal owned by FEBS. The journal considers Research Articles from the fields of basic, translational, and clinical cancer research and also publishes Review Articles, Commentaries and Policy Papers discussing emerging concepts in cancer research, cancer diagnosis, prevention and care. Manuscripts are handled by a team of dedicated academic Section Editors under a transparent peer review scheme.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required for Research Articles. Abstract must not exceed 180 words.
Manuscript A typical Research Article is around 5,500 words. Manuscript must use clearly defined and numbered sections and include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions, with a combined Results and Discussion section permitted. Manuscript must include a maximum of 6 keywords, a short author-contribution statement using initials only, acknowledgements before the references, a conflict of interest disclosure at the end of the main text, and any AI-use disclosure in the Methods or Acknowledgements as applicable.
References References must use a numbered citation system. References to in-press articles must include the article title and journal name, while unpublished work and personal communications should be cited only in the text.
Figures & Tables A typical Research Article contains 5–7 figures. Tables must be placed on separate pages at the end of the main text, while figures may be included in the main text file for review or provided as separate files at initial submission. Figure legends must be included in the main text, and tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images.

Manuscript Systematic Reviews should use a manuscript structure resembling that of Research Articles, with clearly defined and numbered sections. The manuscript must include an evaluation of the quality of analyzed evidence.

Cover Letter A covering letter is required for Short Reports. The covering letter must state the reasons supporting immediacy of publication.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must not exceed 180 words. The abstract is unstructured.
Manuscript Short Reports must not exceed 3,500 words. Short Reports use the same format as Research Articles, with clearly defined and numbered sections including Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusions, and a combined Results and Discussion section is permitted. Provide a maximum of 6 keywords, a short description of each author's contribution, a conflict of interest disclosure at the end of the main text, and any AI-use disclosure in the Methods or Acknowledgements as applicable.
References References must use a numbered citation system. Articles cited as in press must include the title and journal name, unpublished work should be kept to a minimum and cited in parentheses in the text, and personal communications may be mentioned only in the text.
Figures & Tables Short Reports may contain up to 4 display items in total, including figures and tables. At initial submission, tables must be placed after the references and figures may be embedded in the main text for review or uploaded as separate files.
