Molecular Pharmacology

Molecular Pharmacology publishes findings derived from innovative structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology applied to basic pharmacological problems that provide mechanistic insights broadly important to pharmacology and toxicology. Relevant topics include molecular signaling and mechanism of drug action, chemical biology and drug discovery, structure of drug-receptor complexes, systems analysis of drug action, and drug transport and metabolism.

Submission Instructions

Molecular Pharmacology accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Research Articles

Cover Letter A letter of submission is required. The cover letter must include a scientific basis for the drug concentration or concentrations used in the experiments.
Abstract An abstract is required for Original Research Articles. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured and able to stand alone.
Manuscript The Introduction must not exceed 750 words and the Discussion must not exceed 1,500 words. Manuscript must include an Introduction stating the aims or hypotheses, a Materials and Methods section, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements before the references, and a significance statement immediately after the abstract. Manuscript must include a significance statement of no more than 80 words after the abstract, 3 to 6 English keywords with acronyms and abbreviations spelled out, a declaration of generative AI use before the references, and completion of the declarations tool.
References References must use numbered citations in superscript Arabic numerals in order of appearance. The reference list must be numbered in order of appearance and journal names must be abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively in order of appearance, and provided with captions.

Minireviews

Cover Letter A letter of submission is required, and unsolicited Minireviews should be preceded by a presubmission inquiry. Drug concentration justification must be included in the cover letter, and presubmission inquiries for unsolicited Minireviews must include the abstract, significance statement, proposed title, and full author list.
Abstract An abstract is required for Minireviews. Minireview abstracts are limited to 250 words. The abstract must be a single paragraph and able to stand alone without reference to the text. The abstract must indicate the scope of the minireview and summarize the major contents presented.
Manuscript Minireviews should generally range from 4,000 to 6,000 words excluding the reference list. Minireviews should preferably include Introduction, Brief historical perspective, Key recent advances, Current challenges and knowledge gaps, Perspective on future directions, and Conclusions sections. The manuscript must include a separate Significance Statement of no more than 80 words, 3 to 6 English keywords with acronyms and abbreviations spelled out, and a generative AI declaration section before the references if applicable.
References There is no limit to references for Minireviews. References must be cited in the text with superscript Arabic numerals and listed in numerical order of appearance, with journal names abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations.
Figures & Tables Figures must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript, while tables are submitted within the manuscript as editable text. Tables must be editable text and not images, and all figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and provided with captions.

Abstract Abstract is not required for Letters To The Editor.
Manuscript A declaration of generative AI use in manuscript preparation must be included in a new section before the references list.
References References must use a numbered citation style with superscript Arabic numerals cited in order of appearance. The reference list must be numbered in order of citation, journal names must be abbreviated according to the List of Title Word Abbreviations, and all in-text citations must match the reference list.
Figures & Tables Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables are included as editable text. Tables must be numbered consecutively and include captions, and all figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript text.
