Submission Instructions

Neuroinformatics accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Article

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract is required for Original Article submissions. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript There is no specific limit on manuscript length for Original Articles, but brevity and conciseness are required. Original Articles should present a hypothesis, method of approach, results and analysis data supporting or refuting the hypothesis, and discussion of the significance and implications of the findings. Manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, an Information Sharing Statement immediately prior to the Acknowledgments, a Data Availability Statement, and a Declarations section before the reference list with at least Funding and Conflicts of interest/Competing interests headings, and any use of a Large Language Model must be documented in the Methods section or another suitable part of the manuscript.
References References must use name-and-year citation style. Reference list must be alphabetized by the first author's surname, include only works cited in the text that are published or accepted for publication, list all authors up to 20 or the first 19 plus an ellipsis and the final author for larger groups, and include full DOI links when available.
Figures & Tables There is no specific limit on the number of figures and tables for Original Articles. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if file size causes upload problems. Figures and tables must be numbered in Arabic numerals and cited in consecutive numerical order, each table must have a caption, and each figure must have a concise caption provided in the manuscript text file rather than in the figure file.

Data Original Article

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required for Data Original Article submissions. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript There is no specific limit on manuscript length for Data Original Article submissions, but brevity and conciseness are required. Data Original Article submissions should be full-length manuscripts describing an original data release and should include a data description, data assessment, and discussion of the data significance. The manuscript must include an Information Sharing Statement immediately prior to the Acknowledgments, 4 to 6 keywords, a Declarations section before the reference list with at least Funding and Conflicts of interest/Competing interests headings, and disclosure of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or a suitable alternative section.
References Citations must use name-and-year style in the text. The reference list must be alphabetized by the first author's last name and include all authors up to 20, or for more than 20 list the first 19 followed by an ellipsis and the final author.
Figures & Tables There is no specific limit on the number of figures and tables for Data Original Article submissions. Figures should be submitted within the body of the text, with large figures submitted separately only if file size causes upload problems. Figures and tables must be numbered with Arabic numerals, cited in consecutive numerical order in the text, and accompanied by concise captions.

Abstract Abstract is required for Software Original Article submissions. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript Manuscript must be a full-length scientific article describing a new software product or significant extension of functionality and include installation and running instructions, validation of exactness according to accepted standards, and evaluation of advantages versus comparable software packages with benchmarking if applicable. Manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, an Information Sharing Statement immediately before the Acknowledgments, a Declarations section before the references with Funding and Conflicts of interest/Competing interests headings, and documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or similar section.
References Citations must use name-and-year style in the text. Reference list must contain only cited published or accepted works, be alphabetized by first-author surname, list up to 20 authors in full or the first 19 plus an ellipsis and the final author for larger groups, and include full DOI links when available.
Figures & Tables Figures should be embedded within the manuscript text and submitted separately only if file size causes upload problems. Software and the script or code used to generate figures and tables must be made available to reviewers for evaluation.

Reviews

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 150 to 250 words.
Manuscript There is no specific limit on manuscript length, but brevity and conciseness of presentation are required. Relevant statements must be included under the heading "Statements and Declarations" or in a section entitled "Declarations" before the reference list, and if no declarations are relevant the section must still be included and state "Not applicable." The manuscript must include 4 to 6 keywords, a review-specific author responsibility statement identifying who had the idea for the article, who performed the literature search and data analysis, and who drafted or critically revised the work, a statement of every author's contribution, disclosure and funding declarations, an Information Sharing Statement immediately before the Acknowledgments, and documentation of any Large Language Model use in the Methods section or another suitable section.
References References must use name-and-year in-text citation style. The reference list must contain only cited published or accepted works, be alphabetized by first-author surname, list up to 20 authors in full or the first 19 plus an ellipsis and the final author for larger groups, and include full DOI links when available.
