Photoacoustics

Photoacoustics is an open access journal focused on original research and review contributions in photoacoustics, optoacoustics, and thermoacoustics. It covers acoustical and ultrasonic phenomena excited by electromagnetic radiation for detection, visualization, and characterization of materials and biological tissues, with emphasis on biomedical optoacoustic imaging, sensing, spectroscopy, imaging technologies, signal processing, reconstruction algorithms, contrast agents, clinical translation, and industrial and environmental applications.

Submission Instructions

Photoacoustics accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Reviews

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be concise and factual in an unstructured format.
Manuscript Reviews should generally be about 4–6 printed pages. Reviews must present deep analysis of previously published data and provide justified proposals for future developments, methods to improve technology, and ways to overcome present challenges. Manuscript must include 1 to 7 English keywords, 3 to 5 highlights submitted as a separate editable file, a generative AI declaration section before the references when applicable, and author biographies with passport-type photographs.
References References must be cited by number in square brackets and listed in the order of appearance. Review references must be comprehensive rather than selectively representative, and journal names in the reference list must be abbreviated according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables Figures must be uploaded as separate files and tables must be provided as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and accompanied by captions.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Research Articles have no length limit. Articles must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, with the abstract excluded from section numbering. Manuscripts must include 1 to 7 English keywords, submit 3 to 5 highlights as a separate editable file, include acknowledgements before the references, provide CRediT author contributions, and add a generative AI declaration in a new section before the references if AI was used in manuscript preparation.
References References must be cited in the text using numbered square brackets. References must be numbered in the order of appearance and journal names must be abbreviated according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables The number of figures and tables is not limited. Figures must be uploaded as separate files along with the manuscript, while tables must be provided as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively, and accompanied by captions.

Letters

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript Letters must not exceed 2,000 words and 8 pages including title, abstract, references, figures, figure captions, and tables. Articles must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, with the abstract excluded from section numbering. The manuscript must include 1 to 7 keywords, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be declared in a section placed before the references list.
References References must be cited in the text using numbers in square brackets and listed in the order they appear in the article.
Figures & Tables Letters may include a maximum of 5 figures or tables. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables must be submitted as editable text. Tables must be editable text rather than images, and all figures and tables must be cited in the manuscript, numbered consecutively, and provided with captions.
