Sleep Health

Sleep Health: Journal of the National Sleep Foundation is a multidisciplinary journal that explores the role of sleep in population health from a multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder perspective. Major interest areas include multi-level factors that influence sleep health and sleep disorders; the role of sleep in promoting health, wellness, and healthy development and aging; community-based and system-level interventions promoting sleep health; and emerging sleep health technologies and methods. The journal welcomes original research articles, qualitative and mixed research methods, review articles, brief reports, letters to the editor, editorials, and commentaries.

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must concisely state the study aim and main findings, explain fit with the journal’s scope, emphasize novelty and broader implications, acknowledge an invitation if applicable, and attest that all authors approved the final manuscript.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or fewer. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main body text must not exceed 4,000 words. Manuscript must be divided into clearly defined sections with headings and include two pre-Introduction sections titled “What was known” and “What this study adds.” Manuscript must include 4–6 keywords and a data sharing statement, and if generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in writing, include a declaration section before the references.
References References should generally not exceed 60. References must use AMA style, 11th edition. References must be numbered in order of appearance using superscript citations, not alphabetized, and list up to 6 authors or editors or the first 3 followed by “et al.” if more than 6.
Figures & Tables Each illustration must be submitted as a separate file, captions to illustrations must be provided on a separate page, and each table should appear on a separate page. Figures and tables must be numbered consecutively in the order cited in the text.
