Stress: The International Journal on the Biology of Stress publishes peer-reviewed papers, invited reviews, and short communications on interdisciplinary aspects of stress, including mechanisms of stressful stimulation, physiological and behavioural responses, adaptive mechanisms, coping strategies, and pathological consequences. It covers physiology, neurobiology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, behavioural studies, and biologically focused clinical research, and has been fully open access since Volume 25 (2022).

Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Original Articles should be more than 4,000 and no more than 7,000 words. Original Articles typically include Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion sections. Manuscript must include six keywords, a disclosure statement under the subheading "Disclosure of interest," and a statement disclosing whether and how generative AI was used.
References Original Articles must include no more than 50 references. References must follow APA 7 style. Reference entries must be listed at the end of the main text under the heading "References" and ordered alphabetically by the first authors' surnames.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be placed within the text or submitted as separate documents. Tables must be supplied as editable files.

Manuscript Review Articles should be more than 4,000 words, no more than 7,000 words, and normally no longer than 10 printed pages. Manuscript should be organized in the order of title page, abstract, keywords, main text, acknowledgments, declaration of interest statement, references, appendices as appropriate, tables, figures, and figure captions. Manuscript must include 6 keywords, a Declaration of Interest statement, a word count, and a statement disclosing whether and how generative AI has been used in the research and manuscript preparation process.
References Review Articles should include more than 50 references. References must follow APA 7th edition style. Reference entries must be listed under the heading "References," include all cited works, and be ordered alphabetically by the first author's surname.
