Original Research

Cover Letter A brief cover letter is required, and Original Research manuscripts over 3500 words should include a justification in the cover letter. The cover letter must briefly explain why the manuscript should be a priority for publication, and for manuscripts over 3500 words it must provide a justification for the length.
Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript Original Research articles should generally be a maximum of 3500 words excluding tables, references, abstract and 'What this paper adds', and articles longer than 5000 words will not be considered. The manuscript should be ordered as abstract, main text under appropriate headings and subheadings, tables, acknowledgments and required statements, and references. Original Research articles must include a key messages section after the abstract with the headings 'What is already known on this topic', 'What this study adds', and 'How this study might affect research, practice or policy', written in no more than 3–5 sentences, and authors should use MeSH descriptors as keywords.
References References must use a slightly modified Vancouver referencing style. References must be numbered sequentially in the text and reference list, list the first three authors followed by 'et al' if applicable, and include the article title and DOI or PubMed ID.
Figures & Tables Original Research articles may include up to 5 tables or illustrations. Tables should be placed in the main text where first cited, while figures must be uploaded as separate files with legends provided at the end of the manuscript.

Systematic Review

Cover Letter A brief cover letter should highlight the key reasons the manuscript should be a priority for publication. The cover letter should explain any lack of local ethics approval and/or local researcher or author involvement when applicable.
Abstract A Systematic Review must include an abstract. The abstract must be no more than 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Objective, Data sources, Study selection, Data extraction, Data synthesis, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Systematic Review articles are generally 5000 words or less, excluding tables, figures and references. The manuscript should be presented in the order of abstract, main text under appropriate headings and subheadings, tables, acknowledgments and required statements, and references. Systematic Review articles should include key messages after the abstract under the headings What is already known on this topic, What this study adds, and How this study might affect research, practice or policy, in no more than 3–5 sentences.
References References must use a slightly modified version of Vancouver referencing style. References must be cited in numerical order in the main text, with the first three authors listed in the reference list followed by et al if applicable.
Figures & Tables Tables should be placed in the main text where first cited, while figures must be uploaded as separate files. Figure legends should be provided at the end of the manuscript.
