Antiviral Research publishes manuscripts on the prevention and treatment of viral diseases in humans and vertebrate animals, including antiviral drugs, antibodies, host-response modifiers, new drug targets, animal models, drug resistance, pathogenesis, safety assessments, and vaccines. It is the official publication of the International Society for Antiviral Research and publishes original research reports, short communications, commentaries, and invited review articles.

Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for submission. Cover letter should briefly state the study aim and main findings, explain fit with the journal’s scope, emphasize novelty and broader implications, and acknowledge if the submission was invited.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract should be unstructured.
Manuscript Research Article manuscript should not exceed 3500 words. Manuscript should be divided into Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and Acknowledgments. Keywords and 3 to 5 highlights are required at submission, and a generative AI declaration statement must be included in a new section before the references if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.
References Citations must use author name and year format. Reference list should be arranged alphabetically and then chronologically if needed, and references may be in any consistent style at submission.
Figures & Tables Tables are included in the manuscript as editable text, while figures must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript. Tables and figures must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and provided with captions.

Review Articles

Abstract A concise, factual abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract should be unstructured and able to stand alone.
Manuscript Manuscript must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, with the abstract excluded from section numbering. Highlights consisting of 3 to 5 bullet points are required at submission, keywords are required during submission, and any use of generative AI in manuscript preparation must be declared in a new section before the references list.
References Citations in the text must use author name and year. References may be in any consistent style at submission, but must include complete bibliographic details and the reference list should be arranged alphabetically and then chronologically if needed.
