Autism Research

Autism Research covers research relevant to autism spectrum disorder and closely related neurodevelopmental disorders, with a focus on genetic, neurobiological, immunological, epidemiological, and psychological mechanisms and their influence on development. It publishes original research papers, short reports, theoretical papers that significantly advance thinking, animal and model-system studies directly relevant to ASD, and carefully conducted clinical trials. The journal is co-owned and supported by the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR).

Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required if there is a related paper under consideration at another journal. The cover letter must disclose any related paper under consideration at another journal and any conflicts of interest.
Abstract A scientific abstract is required. Abstract must be 150–250 words. Abstract must be unstructured. Abstract should concisely state the questions addressed, the methods used, the main results, and their significance without paragraph headings.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5,000 words excluding abstracts and references. Research Articles must follow IMRaD guidelines. The manuscript must include a Lay Summary, five to seven keywords, and RRIDs in the keyword list where applicable.
References A DOI should be provided for all references where available.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables may be included in the editable manuscript file or submitted as separate files. Figures and tables must have legends and be numbered in the order of appearance in the text.

Letter To The Editor

Abstract Abstract is not required for Letters To The Editor.
Manuscript Letter To The Editor should usually be 300 words or less. Letter To The Editor must be written in continuous prose without subsections. Lay Summary is not required for Letters To The Editor.
References Letter To The Editor must have fewer than five citations. Citations should be limited to the article in question and highly relevant references supporting the discourse.
Figures & Tables Any figures and tables included must have legends.

Commentaries

Cover Letter A letter of interest is required before submission. The letter of interest must indicate the topic of the proposed Commentary, include an outline of its contents, and briefly explain why it is a good time to review the topic.

Manuscript Commentaries must be 1,500–3,000 words excluding abstract and references. The manuscript must include a Lay Summary.
