Biochemia Medica

Biochemia Medica is the official journal of the Croatian Society of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine and publishes articles in English. It covers clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine, including hematology and hemostasis, molecular diagnostics, immunology, analytical toxicology, clinical laboratory pharmacology and endocrinology, along with method development, laboratory organization, automation, quality and safety, harmonization and standardization, reference methods and values. The journal also regularly publishes preanalytical case reports, articles on applied biostatistics, and research integrity topics, while genetic association studies and studies on animal models or cell cultures are outside its scope.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must include the corresponding author's name, a 2–3 sentence description of the study, the body text word count and number of figures, tables, and graphs, the suggested manuscript category, reasons the work would interest the journal's readership, and statements on redundant publication and preprint availability.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5000 words. Manuscript must include Highlights as 3 to 5 bullet points, a graphical abstract, 3 to 5 MeSH-based keywords whenever possible, and an AI-use disclosure in the Materials and methods section naming the tool, version, and source if AI-assisted writing was used.
References References must not exceed 100. References must follow Vancouver style. References must be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals in parentheses in order of first appearance, with citations placed at the end of the sentence and journal titles abbreviated according to NLM Catalog style.
Figures & Tables Tables must be provided on separate pages at the end of the document and each figure with its caption must be provided on a separate page at the end of the document, although figures may be uploaded separately if they cannot be inserted into the manuscript file. Figures must be presented in black and white and/or grayscale.
