Original Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract is required and must be included for Original Research Articles. Abstract must not exceed 300 words inclusive of headings. Abstract must be structured into four sections. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Initial submissions must not exceed 5,000 words exclusive of title, abstract, references, tables, and figure legends. Manuscript must be assembled in the order Title Page, Abstract, Text (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion), Acknowledgments, Sources of Funding, Disclosures, References, Figure Legends, Tables, and Figures. Manuscript must include a bulleted Clinical Perspective section following the abstract with the headings "What is Known" and "What the Study Adds," and automated assistive writing technologies used must be documented in the Acknowledgements or Methods as applicable.
References References must use a numbered endnote style. References must be cited in numerical order according to first mention in the text and must list the first 10 author names followed by "et al."
Figures & Tables Initial submissions must not exceed 8 figures. Original Research Articles must provide either a full manuscript PDF or separate review files including the manuscript text file, figures, and supplemental material, and tables may be embedded within the manuscript or submitted as separate files. Tables in the main manuscript must be included as editable text rather than images, and figure legends must be included in the manuscript text file.
