Article

Cover Letter Cover letter is required only for expedited submission of an Article previously peer reviewed by another prominent journal. For expedited submission previously peer reviewed by another prominent journal, the cover letter must verify that communications with the prior journal are not under a nondisclosure or confidentiality agreement and that all prior journal emails and reviewer comments have been provided intact and unedited, and it must disclose any use of artificial intelligence to help generate content, write code, or process data.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be limited to 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Main text excluding abstract and references must not exceed 3,500 words. Text should be formatted with the headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Submission must include keywords on the first page, a Brief Summary of no more than 100 words addressing the paper’s rationale, approach, findings, and implications and including a simple phonetic spelling of the first author’s full name, and alt text descriptions in the main manuscript file directly under each relevant figure legend.
References No more than 40 references are permitted. In-text citations must use numbered references in the form (1) or (1, 2), and references must be listed and numbered in order of appearance with the first six authors followed by et al. when there are more than seven authors.
Figures & Tables No more than 6 tables and/or figures in total are permitted. Tables must be embedded directly following the reference section, while all figures must be uploaded separately as image files and not embedded in the manuscript file. Each table must appear on an individual page and be labeled and numbered consecutively, and figure legends must be listed together on an individual page directly following the tables or the references if there are no tables.
