Research Papers

Cover Letter Cover letter should highlight the study findings, the advance it brings, and its relevance to the field, and must state if the submission extends preliminary work or work previously presented in abstract form.
Abstract Abstract is required and must not include references. Abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript Research Papers should be approximately 10–15 pages. Main text must include Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion, with the Methods included in the main text file and containing enough detail for independent replication. Manuscript must include a Clinical Perspectives summary section as three bullet-pointed sentences on why the study was undertaken, a brief summary of the results, and the potential significance to human health and disease, and it must include a Data Availability Statement immediately after the Conclusions in the main text, while any AI use for writing, editing, or data work must be disclosed in the Materials and Methods or a similar section.
References There is no limit on the number of references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be numbered consecutively in the text and listed in numerical order, with the first six authors followed by 'et al' when a reference has more than six authors, and DOI included where possible.
Figures & Tables Figures may be embedded in the main text or uploaded as separate files, while control experiments must be included in the main manuscript and should appear within the figures of the main article rather than in supplementary material. Figures and tables must each have a title and legend where appropriate, all figures must be cited in the main text, microscopy images should include a scale bar, and composite figures must have dividing lines and be identified in the figure legend.

Review Articles

Cover Letter Cover letter should highlight the findings of the study, the advance it brings, and its relevance to the field.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words.
Manuscript Review Articles are usually 6,000–8,000 words excluding references and figure legends. Review Articles should be full-length reviews of broad interest. Any use of AI to aid writing or editing or data collection and analysis must be disclosed in the Materials and Methods section or a similar section, and authors must provide keywords during submission.
References There is no limit on the number of references included in Review Articles. References must use Vancouver style. References must be numbered consecutively in the text and listed in numerical order, with the first six authors followed by 'et al' when there are more than six authors.
Figures & Tables Review Articles should include at least one figure. Figures may be embedded into the main text or provided as separate files. All figures and tables must include a title and legend where appropriate, and all figures must be referred to in the main text.
