Dental Materials is the official publication of the Academy of Dental Materials and publishes original research and review articles. Its principal aim is to promote rapid communication of scientific information between academia, industry, and the dental practitioner, with priority given to clinical and laboratory research on the properties or performance of dental materials or the reaction of host tissues to materials. Other acceptable topics include application technology in clinical dentistry and dental laboratory technology.

Submission Instructions

Dental Materials accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Original Research Reports

Cover Letter A letter of transmittal signed by each author must accompany the submission. The letter must state that all named authors were involved in the work, specify each author's contribution, and confirm that all named authors read the paper before submission.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be 250 words or less. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Objectives, Methods, Results, and Significance.
Manuscript Original Research Reports must not exceed 6 journal pages, approximately 20 double-spaced typescript pages, including illustrations and tables. Manuscript must be divided into clearly defined and numbered sections, including an introduction, materials and methods, results, and discussion. The manuscript must include keywords, a competing interests statement, highlights of 3 to 5 bullet points submitted in a separate editable file, and an AI-use declaration in a section placed before the references when applicable.
References References must follow the journal's numeric citation style. References must be cited in numerical order using square brackets in the text, listed in reference-list order, and for works with more than 6 authors the first 6 must be followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Figures with captions and tables must be embedded at their appropriate locations within the manuscript, and standalone artwork files must also be uploaded. Tables must be editable text and not images, figures and tables must be numbered consecutively in the order cited, and captions for tables and figures must be listed together on a separate page.
