Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice is an international journal for health-care providers and clinically oriented researchers that publishes original research articles and expert reviews in diabetes and related areas. It focuses on dissemination of knowledge and discussion related to diabetes clinical research and patient care, including translational science, genetics, immunology, nutrition, psychosocial research, epidemiology, prevention, socio-economic research, complications, new treatments, technologies and therapy.

Research Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Research Articles must include a structured abstract. Abstract must not exceed 200 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Aims, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Keywords.
Manuscript Manuscript must be a maximum of 5000 words, including a combined total of five figures or tables with legends. Manuscript must be organized as Title Page, Structured Abstract, Introduction, Subjects, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, and figures and tables with legends. Research Articles must be designated as Basic Research, Clinical Research, or Epidemiology, and any use of AI or AI-assisted tools in the research design or methods must be described reproducibly in the Methods section.
References Research Articles may include up to 50 references in addition to the word limit. References must be cited by number in square brackets. Reference list must be numbered in order of appearance in the text, and references with more than 6 authors must list the first 6 followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Research Articles may include a combined total of no more than five figures or tables with legends. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while figures and tables with legends must also be included as part of the manuscript structure. Tables must be submitted as editable text with captions and figures must each have a caption, and AI or AI-assisted tools must not be used to create or alter images.

Review Articles

Abstract A summary is required for Review Articles. The summary must be no more than 200 words.
Manuscript Review Articles must be a maximum of 5000 words, and this limit includes a combined total of five figures or tables with legends. Review Articles must use subheadings in the text to highlight the content of different sections. Submit highlights as a separate editable file containing 3 to 5 bullet points, and generative AI or AI-assisted tools must not be used to create or alter images in the manuscript.

Figures & Tables The 5000-word limit includes a combined total of five figures or tables with legends. Figures must be supplied as separate files and tables must be submitted as editable text. Figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively, and each must include a caption or legend.

References Research Briefs may include up to 20 references. Citations must be numbered in square brackets in the text and the reference list must be numbered in order of first appearance, listing the first 6 authors followed by 'et al.' when there are more than 6 authors.
Figures & Tables Tables must be submitted as editable text and figures must be supplied as separate files along with the manuscript. All tables and figures must be cited in the manuscript text, numbered in order of appearance, and provided with captions.
