Original Article

Cover Letter Cover letter or completed submission form must accompany the manuscript. Cover letter or submission form must include statements on conflicts of interest and authorship, contact information for the author handling revisions and proofs if not in the manuscript, and any additional information helpful to the editor such as the article type.
Abstract A text abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Structured abstract is required. Trial registration number must be included at the end of the text abstract, and the abstract must not contain references or abbreviations.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 5000 words excluding references, the title page, and the abstract(s). Manuscript must contain the sections abstract, keywords, introduction, methods, results, and discussion in that order. Manuscript may include a maximum of 6 keywords, must include a graphical abstract, and AI use for writing assistance must be reported in the Acknowledgements section while AI use for data collection, analysis, or figure generation must be described in the Methods section.
References References may not exceed 50. References must follow NLM's Sample References and Citing Medicine, 2nd edition style. References must be cited by Arabic numerals in parentheses in the order cited, and if a reference has more than six authors, the first six must be listed followed by "et al.".
Figures & Tables Manuscript may include a maximum of 6 figures and 6 tables. Tables must be placed at the end of the main text, approximate positions of figures and tables must be indicated in the manuscript, and each figure must be uploaded as a separate file. Figure legends must appear in a separate section at the end of the manuscript under the heading "Legends," and tables must be numbered, cited in the text, and provided in editable format.

Figures & Tables The manuscript may include a maximum of 6 figures and 6 tables. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, tables must be placed at the end of the main text, and approximate figure and table positions must be indicated in the manuscript. A graphical abstract is required and must be 12.5 cm × 18.0 cm at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi using a sans serif font with text sized 10–12 points and no smaller than 8 points.

Data Paper

Cover Letter A cover letter or completed journal submission form must accompany the manuscript. The cover letter or submission form must include statements on conflicts of interest and authorship, contact information for the author responsible for communication, and the article type or format.
Abstract A text abstract is required. The text abstract must not exceed 250 words. The text abstract must be unstructured. The text abstract must contain no references or abbreviations and must include the database URL and trial registration number at the end.
Manuscript The manuscript must not exceed 5000 words excluding references, the title page, and the abstract(s). The manuscript must include an Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Funding, Consent, and Legends sections. The manuscript may include a maximum of 6 keywords, must include alt text directly under each relevant figure legend, and must disclose any AI use in the acknowledgments or Methods as applicable.
References The manuscript may include a maximum of 50 references. References must follow NLM style. References must be cited with Arabic numerals in order of citation, include complete bibliographic information, and list the first six authors followed by "et al." when there are more than six authors.
Figures & Tables The manuscript may include a maximum of 6 figures and 6 tables. Tables must be placed at the end of the main text, figures must be uploaded as separate files, and figure legends must appear in a separate Legends section at the end of the manuscript. Tables must be editable, numbered, titled or legended, and cited in the text, and figures must be consecutively numbered, cited in the text, and accompanied by alt text in the manuscript.

Abstract Short Reports must include a text abstract. Text abstract must not exceed 250 words. Text abstract must be unstructured. Text abstract must not contain references or abbreviations and must include the trial registration number at the end.
Manuscript Short Reports must not exceed 1500 words, excluding references, the title page, and the abstract(s). Short Reports may include up to 6 keywords and must not include supplementary data or material.
References Short Reports may include a maximum of 10 references. References must follow NLM style. References must be cited by Arabic numerals in the order cited, include complete bibliographic information, and list the first six authors followed by "et al." when there are more than six authors.
Figures & Tables Short Reports may include a maximum of 1 figure or 1 table. Tables must be placed at the end of the main text, figures must be uploaded as separate files, and figure legends must appear in a separate section at the end of the manuscript under the heading "Legends". Authors must indicate the approximate position of each figure and table in the manuscript.
