Original Articles

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Original Articles must include a structured abstract. Abstract must be no more than 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Background and Objective, Methods, Key Findings and Limitations, and Conclusions and Clinical Implications, and must end with a Patient Summary in two or three short plain-English sentences.
Manuscript Original Articles must be no longer than 2750 words including the abstract but excluding references, tables, figures, and legends. Original Articles must be divided into Introduction, Materials (Patients) and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. Original Articles must include a take home message of two or three sentences no longer than 40 words and an Advancing Practice section headed “What does the study add?” in 3 to 4 sentences, and any use of generative AI in writing must be disclosed in a section before the references titled “Declaration of Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process”.
References Original Articles are limited to 40 references. References must follow a modified AMA format. References must be listed in the order cited, with all authors named for works with up to six authors and the first three authors followed by et al. for works with more than six authors.
Figures & Tables Original Articles must limit tables and figures to five in total. Take home messages may be uploaded separately or included at the end of the manuscript text, and any additional tables, figures, or appendices must be submitted as supplementary material. Each figure may contain a maximum of four subparts.
