Gut is a leading international journal in gastroenterology and hepatology from BMJ and the British Society of Gastroenterology. It publishes clinical research of the alimentary tract, liver, biliary tree and pancreas, along with reviews and clinically oriented coverage across gastroenterology and hepatology. Original Research

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract is required for Original Research. Abstract must be structured and no more than 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings 'Background', 'Objective', 'Design', 'Results', and 'Conclusion'.
Manuscript Manuscript must not exceed 4,000 words, excluding the title page, abstract, tables, acknowledgements, contributions, and references. Original Research titles must include the research type, and the manuscript must include a Patient and Public Involvement statement in the Methods section. Manuscript must include key messages after the abstract with the headings 'What is already known on this topic', 'What this study adds', and 'How this study might affect research, practice or policy', limited to 3–5 sentences, and be accompanied by a visual abstract in one PowerPoint slide.
References References should be limited to those critical and relevant to the manuscript, around 50.
Figures & Tables Figures are not limited but must be thoroughly justified.
