Original Article

Cover Letter Cover letter requirement is not specified. If the manuscript was previously posted as a preprint, indicate this in the cover letter and provide the preprint reference.
Abstract Structured abstract is required and must not exceed 300 words. Non-trial abstracts must use Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions; trial abstracts must follow CONSORT for abstracts.
Manuscript Original Articles must not exceed 3000 words (excluding title page, abstract, tables, acknowledgements, contributions, and references). Include key messages after the abstract and a Patient and Public Involvement statement in Methods.
References Original Articles must not exceed 30 references. All references must be cited in the main text; references relating only to supplemental material must be cited in the supplement.
Figures & Tables Original Articles must not exceed eight figures and/or tables. Summary figure/visual abstract must be uploaded as supplementary online material, not included as a main-manuscript figure.

Abstract An abstract is required and must be no more than 200 words.
