Histopathology is an international journal of diagnostic, research and surgical pathology published on behalf of the British Division of the International Academy of Pathology. Its primary purpose is to publish advances in the diagnosis and study of diseases of human tissue, particularly work applicable to clinical practice and contributing to a better understanding of disease.

Original Research Papers

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract Abstract is required and must be structured for Original Research Papers. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must use the headings Aims, Methods and results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Original Research Papers should normally be no more than 2500 words from the beginning of the Introduction to the end of the Discussion. Manuscript should be divided into the sections Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion.
References References must follow the modified Vancouver style used by the NLM in Index Medicus. References must be numbered consecutively in order of first mention and cited in the text, tables, and legends as Arabic superscript numerals.
Figures & Tables Figures and illustrations must not be embedded in the manuscript document but uploaded as separate files, while tables may be included in the main document on separate pages at the end or provided as separate files on submission.

Review Articles

Abstract An abstract is required for Review Articles. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Review Articles may use an unstructured abstract.
Manuscript Review Articles may exceed the usual 2500-word limit by arrangement with the Editor-in-Chief. Review Articles should include a title and adhere as closely as possible to the general manuscript guidelines, but they may use an unstructured abstract. Manuscript must include 3 to 8 keywords below the abstract, acknowledgments, references, and transparent disclosure of any AI-generated content tool use in the Methods or Acknowledgements section.
References References must follow the modified Vancouver style used by the NLM in Index Medicus. References must be numbered consecutively in order of first mention and cited with Arabic superscript numerals, with up to six authors listed or the first three followed by et al. if there are more than six authors.
Figures & Tables Figures and illustrations must be uploaded as separate files rather than embedded in the manuscript, while tables may be included in the main document on separate pages at submission. A Graphical Abstract must be uploaded as the first manuscript item as a clearly titled image file and should be approximately square with labels or short phrases.
