Human Factors The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Research Article

Cover Letter Cover letter is required only if requesting double-anonymized review. Cover letter must note the request for double-anonymized review.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must be structured and no more than 250 words. Abstract must be structured. Structured abstract must include the headings Objective, Background, Method, Results, Conclusion, and Application.
Manuscript Manuscript must be limited to 4,500 words excluding the abstract, key points, tables, and references. Manuscript must report previously unpublished original research that is experimental, methodological, or theoretical in nature and present a single fully developed experiment or concept. Manuscript must include key points in bullet form before the references, up to 5 keywords, a 50-word précis in 1–3 sentences, and an explicit discussion of the study's practical implications.
References References must follow APA Seventh Edition style. Reference entries must include up to 20 authors before an ellipsis is used, include journal issue numbers, present DOIs and URLs as hyperlinks without the label “DOI:”, use “Retrieved from” only when a retrieval date is needed, and omit publisher location for books.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables with captions must be placed within the manuscript where first mentioned in the text. Tables and figures must use parallel formatting and figures must use color accessibly.

Manuscript must report a sequence of closely related original studies with a theoretical progression that are best discussed collectively and whose components can each be statistically evaluated independently. Manuscript must include up to 5 keywords, a 50-word précis in 1–3 sentences, bullet-point key points before the references, and an explicit discussion of practical implications.
References References must follow APA Seventh Edition style. References must use hanging indents, list up to 20 authors before an ellipsis, include issue numbers for journal articles, omit book publisher locations, present DOIs and URLs as hyperlinks, omit the label “DOI:”, and use “Retrieved from” only when a retrieval date is needed.
