Original Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must state the scientific question addressed by the study, the principal new findings, the significance of the results for the field, and any financial conflicts of interest.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 200 words. Abstract structure type is not specified.
Manuscript Text is recommended to be limited to 6,000 words excluding references. Manuscript should include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion sections in that order, each beginning on a separate page. Up to six key words must follow the abstract, and the manuscript must include acknowledgements immediately after the Discussion followed by a conflicts of interest disclosure.
References References must be numbered in order of citation, list all authors when there are ten or fewer, list the first ten authors followed by 'et al' when there are more than ten, and include only published papers or papers in press.
Figures & Tables Original Articles may include up to 7 display items in total, defined as figures or tables, with additional items allowed as supplemental information. Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables may be placed after the figure legends in the manuscript or uploaded separately. Figure legends must be brief, specific, and numbered in Arabic numerals with a short title, and all tables must be numbered in Arabic numerals and include a title with footnotes presented as table footnotes.

Review Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must address the scientific question, the principal new findings that answer it, the significance of the results for the field, and any financial conflicts of interest.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract is limited to 200 words.
Manuscript Text is recommended to be limited to 7,500 words. Manuscript should include Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion sections in this order, with each section beginning on a separate page. Up to six key words must follow the abstract, and financial conflicts of interest must be disclosed.
References References are recommended to be limited to 100. References must be numbered in the order of citation, list all authors when there are ten or fewer, list the first ten authors followed by 'et al' when there are more than ten, and include only published or in-press papers.
Figures & Tables Figures must be uploaded as separate files, while tables may be included after the figure legends in the text file or uploaded separately. Figure legends and tables must be numbered in Arabic numerals in order of appearance, and all tables must have a title with footnotes included as table legends.

Brief Communications

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must address the scientific question being asked, the principal new findings that answer it, the significance of the results for the field, and any financial conflicts of interest.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract is limited to 150 words. Abstract structure type is not specified beyond being a concise summary.
Manuscript Recommended text length is 3,000 words excluding references. Manuscript should follow Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion, with Results and Discussion permitted to be combined for Brief Communications. Up to six keywords must follow the abstract, and the manuscript must include acknowledgements, conflict of interest disclosure, and author contribution statements using the CRediT taxonomy.
References References must be numbered in order of appearance, list all authors when there are ten or fewer, list the first ten authors followed by 'et al' when there are more than ten, and include only published papers or papers in press.
Figures & Tables Brief Communications may contain up to 4 display items in total across figures and tables. Figure files must be uploaded separately, while tables may be placed in the text after the figure legends or uploaded as separate files. Figures and tables must be numbered in Arabic numerals in order of appearance, figures must include brief legends with a short title, and all tables must have a title with legends provided as footnotes.
