Submission Instructions

Lancet Planetary Health accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Articles

Cover Letter A covering letter must be included with the first submission.
Abstract Articles must include an abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be semistructured in five paragraphs. The abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, and Funding.
Manuscript Articles must be up to 3500 words, or up to 4500 words for randomised controlled trials. Articles must include a Research in context panel, and randomised trials must include a "Randomisation and masking" section within the Methods section. The manuscript must include a Research in context panel with the sections "Evidence before this study," "Added value of this study," and "Implications of all the available evidence," plus a declaration of interests, funding statements including a "Role of the funding source" statement, an AI-use disclosure if applicable, contributor information, and a data sharing statement at the end of the manuscript.
References Articles must have no more than 30 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation marks, with table, figure, and panel references numbered according to first citation order.
Figures & Tables First submissions should include the manuscript including tables and panels, and figures should be included with the submission. When reporting Kaplan-Meier survival data, numbers at risk must be included at each timepoint.

Reviews

Cover Letter A covering letter must be included with the first submission.
Abstract Reviews must include an abstract in the form of a summary. The summary must be no more than 150 words. The summary must be unstructured.
Manuscript Reviews should be no more than 4500 words. Reviews must include a section titled "Search strategy and selection criteria". The manuscript must include declaration of interests and source of funding statements at the end of the text, an authors' contributions statement at the end of the text, and an acknowledgment disclosure of any generative AI or AI-assisted technologies used in scientific writing.
References Reviews must have no more than 75 references. References must use Vancouver style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation marks, with table, figure, and panel references numbered according to first citation in the text.
