Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must include the corresponding author's affiliation and contact information and briefly explain the context, importance, and journal suitability of the work.
Abstract An abstract is required. The abstract must be no longer than 150 words. The abstract must be unstructured with no subheadings.
Manuscript The manuscript must include Introduction, Results, Discussion, and Methods sections, with no subheadings in the Introduction or Discussion and subheadings used in the Results and Methods. The manuscript must include Data availability, Author contributions, and Competing Interests sections, place all Methods in the main manuscript file rather than Supplementary Information, declare funding in the Acknowledgments section with no separate Funding statement, and document any use of a large language model in the Methods or another suitable section.
References References are limited to 60. References must use standard Nature referencing style. References must be numbered sequentially in order of appearance and list all authors unless there are more than five, in which case only the first author should be given followed by 'et al.'.
Figures & Tables Figure legends are limited to 350 words per figure. For initial submission, figures should be inserted within the text at appropriate positions, although figure files may also be uploaded separately. Multi-panel figures should be presented on a single page with each panel labeled using an a), b), c) convention.

Manuscript The main text is typically 3,000–4,000 words in length. Subheadings are permitted in the main text. An Author contributions statement and a Competing Interests statement are mandatory, and any use of a large language model must be documented in the Methods section or another suitable manuscript section if no Methods section is available.
