Public Health Research & Practice accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Research Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must justify why the work should be considered for publication in the journal.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must use the headings Objectives and importance of study, Study type, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript Research Articles must be 2500–3500 words including the abstract and key points but excluding references and figures while including tables. The body text must be structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. The manuscript must include key points in dot-point form of no more than 75 words, eight or more keywords, required end-of-manuscript declarations, a 50–80 word three-sentence short summary for non-experts, and an AI declaration describing any generative AI use.
References Research Articles are limited to 25 references. References must use either Harvard (author-date) or Vancouver (numbered) style. References must be cited in the text and listed at the end of the manuscript.
Figures & Tables Research Articles may include up to four figures and tables in total. For initial submission, figures can be embedded in the manuscript file or supplied separately. Tables and figures must be numbered and cited in the text in order of first appearance, and each must include a fully explanatory title or caption.

In Practice

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. Cover letter must justify why the work should be considered for publication.
Abstract A structured abstract is required. Abstract must be structured. Abstract headings must be Objectives; Type of program or service; Methods; Results; Lessons learnt.
Manuscript Manuscript must be 1500–2000 words excluding references and figures but including tables, and this total includes the abstract and key points. Manuscript text must follow the order title page and author information, abstract, keywords, body text, author statements, references, supplementary material. Key points must summarise in dot-point form what the article adds to the body of knowledge and must be no longer than 75 words.
References References are limited to 20. References must use either Harvard (Author Date) or Vancouver (Numbered) style. Reference list must be arranged either alphabetically by first author surname and chronologically for author-date style or in numerical order of first mention for numbered style.
Figures & Tables A maximum of four figures and tables in total is permitted. For initial submission, figures can be embedded in the manuscript file or supplied separately. Tables and figures must be numbered and cited in the text in order of first appearance, and table titles and figure captions must fully explain their content.

Brief Report

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must justify why the work should be considered for publication in the journal.
Abstract Abstract is not required.
Manuscript Brief Reports must be 600–800 words, excluding references and figures but including tables. Key points are not required.
References Brief Reports may include up to 5 references. References must use either Harvard (author-date) or Vancouver (numbered) style. References must be cited in the text and included in a reference list.
Figures & Tables Brief Reports may include one figure or table. For initial submission, figures can be embedded in the manuscript file or supplied separately. Tables must be editable and not provided as images.

News & Views (Letters)

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must justify why the work should be considered for publication in the journal.
Abstract Abstract requirements are not specified.
Manuscript News & Views (Letters) must not exceed 350 words. Include conflicts of interest, funding, acknowledgements, author contributions, and any declaration of AI use in the manuscript.
References References must use either Harvard (author-date) or Vancouver (numbered) style. References must be included in the manuscript and cited in the text.
Figures & Tables For initial submission, figures can be embedded in the manuscript file or supplied separately. Number each table and figure and cite them in the text in order of first appearance.

The manuscript must include key points in dot-point form of no more than 75 words and include a declaration of use of AI at the end of the paper if applicable.
