Research Articles
Cover Letter
A cover letter is required for initial submission. Cover letter must explain the paper's scientific importance and its interest to the journal’s readers.
Abstract
An abstract is required. Abstract must be limited to 250 words. Abstract structure is not specified.
Manuscript
Manuscript must include the sections Abstract, Introduction, Results, Discussion, Materials and Methods, and Acknowledgments, although Results and Discussion may be combined in short papers. Manuscript must include a running title not exceeding 54 characters and spaces and a paragraph headed "Data availability" at the end of Materials and Methods for new accession numbers for specified data types.
References
References must be numbered in citation order, cited parenthetically by number in sequential order, list all authors and editors without using "et al.," use PubMed journal abbreviations, omit periods in abbreviated words, and include URLs for accession numbers.
Figures & Tables
Place figure legends and tables after the References section, and for initial submission include tables in the main text file while figures may be included in the manuscript file or uploaded separately. Appendix equations, tables, and figures must be labeled with the letter "A" preceding the numeral.

An abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 75 words. Abstract structure is not specified.
Manuscript
Manuscript must not exceed 1,000 words exclusive of references. Body text must not use section headings and must combine methods, results, and discussion in a single section. Manuscript must include a running title not exceeding 54 characters and spaces, and materials and methods must be described in the text rather than in figure legends or table footnotes.

References must be numbered in citation order, cited parenthetically by number, list all authors and editors without using “et al.,” and use PubMed journal abbreviations.

Cover Letter
A cover letter is required for initial submission. For Minireviews, the cover letter must state whether the article was solicited and by whom.
Abstract
Minireviews must include an abstract. The abstract must be 250 words or fewer.
Manuscript
Minireviews must be limited to 6,000 words exclusive of references. Minireview biographical text must be included after the References section in the same file, and author bios are limited to 150 words for each author.
References
References must be numbered in the order cited, cited parenthetically by number in sequential order, include all authors and editors without using "et al.," and use PubMed journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables
At initial submission, tables must be included with the main text in a single combined file, figures may be included in that file or uploaded separately, and figure legends and tables should appear after the References section. Minireview bio photos must be black-and-white passport-size head shots uploaded as "Minireview Bio Photo" files, with filenames that include the author's name or enough of it for identification.

Cover Letter

Abstract
A brief abstract is required. Abstract must be limited to 75 words. Abstract structure type is not specified. Mandatory abstract headings are not specified.
Manuscript
The case presentation and strategy/outcome sections combined must not exceed 1,200 words. Manuscript must include a case section describing a single clinical case up to organism isolation, characterization of the organism, susceptibility testing information when appropriate, a single multiple-choice therapeutic question, and a description of the treatment strategy and patient outcome. Manuscript must include a single multiple-choice question addressing the most relevant therapeutic issues with several possible answers as choices.
References
Reference list must contain no more than 10 references. References must be cited by number in sequential order. References must be numbered in citation order, cited parenthetically by number, include all authors and editors without using “et al.,” and use PubMed journal abbreviations.
Figures & Tables
Photos, figures, and tables are limited to a combined total of two. At initial submission, figures may be included in the manuscript file or uploaded separately, while tables must be included in the combined manuscript file and not uploaded separately. Interesting photos, figures, and/or tables must be included.

Abstract is not required because Letters do not have abstracts.

Letter must be no more than 500 words, exclusive of references. Letter must include a title on the manuscript with authors and affiliations listed below the title.

Figures and tables should be kept to a minimum. Figures can be included in the manuscript file or uploaded separately at initial submission, and tables must be included in the manuscript file at initial submission.

A cover letter is required for Comment Letters. For Comment Letters on published articles, the cover letter must state the article DOI, the article title, and the last name of the first author.
Abstract
Abstract is not required for Letters.
