Research Articles

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for Research Articles. The cover letter must briefly state the paper’s main point and significance and disclose any use of AI to generate content or images, write code, process data, or provide translation.
Abstract Research Articles must include both a text abstract and a graphical abstract. The text abstract must not exceed 250 words. The text abstract is unstructured. The abstract must describe the scientific context and goal, experimental strategies, and results, and end with a statement of significance.
Manuscript Research Articles should contain up to 8,000 words in the main text. Research Articles may be submitted in any format that includes Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Figure Legends, and Figures and/or Tables, with Results and Discussion allowed to be combined. The manuscript must include a one-sentence summary of no more than 250 characters, up to 10 keywords, a statement of each author’s contribution, a conflict of interest statement, and AI-use disclosure in the Methods or Acknowledgements section if applicable.
References References must use Biology of Reproduction style. References must be cited numerically in the text using square brackets and listed in citation order, with journal names abbreviated and more than 12 authors shortened to the first 12 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Research Articles should contain up to 8 display items. Research Articles may be submitted in any format that includes Figures and/or Tables, and each figure and table must be placed on a separate page. A graphical abstract is required as a one-panel figure, and figures must be prepared at final size, labeled consecutively with panel letters, include scale bars for micrographs, and use sans serif text.

References References must be cited in numerical order in the text using square brackets and listed in the References section in citation order, with journal names abbreviated appropriately and more than 12 authors shortened to the first 12 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Reviews may include up to 8 display items. Each figure and table must be placed on a separate page. Alt text must be provided in the main manuscript directly under each relevant figure legend, and figures must be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals.

Manuscript Text must not exceed 1,000 words. Letter must begin with 'Dear Editor,' and contain no subsections. No graphical abstract is permitted.
References References are limited to 10. References must be cited numerically in the text and listed in the order of citation, with journal names abbreviated and more than 12 authors shortened to the first 12 followed by et al.
Figures & Tables Letters may include one display item. Each figure and table must be placed on a separate page. Alt text must be provided for every image, figure, illustration, and photograph directly under the relevant figure legend in the main manuscript file, preceded by 'Alt text:'.
