Current Opinion in Toxicology

Current Opinion in Toxicology is a review-focused toxicology journal affiliated with the International Union of Toxicology. It publishes polished, concise, and timely reviews and opinions intended to stimulate scientifically grounded, interdisciplinary, multi-scale debate, with emphasis on recent literature and expert evaluation of important papers. The journal is organized into seven themed sections and accepts invited submissions as well as direct submissions to the General Toxicology section; original research papers and systematic reviews are not considered.

Short Reviews

Cover Letter Cover letter is required for direct submissions of Short Reviews. For direct submission, the cover letter must demonstrate the corresponding author's expertise and track record, describe their scientific background and contributions, list relevant peer-reviewed publications, explain the review's scientific need and timeliness, and state how it differs from and advances beyond closely related recent reviews.
Abstract Abstract is required. Abstract must not exceed 250 words. Abstract must be unstructured.
Manuscript Short Reviews should be approximately 2500–4000 words excluding abstract, references, and figure captions. Short Reviews must be opinion-type review articles that provide short annotations to selected important papers and include the text "References and recommended reading" under the reference section followed by the statements identifying * and ** highlighted papers. Short Reviews must include 1 to 7 keywords in English, at least one figure summarizing the main concepts, and a generative AI declaration at the end of the manuscript before the references if AI tools were used in manuscript preparation.
References Short Reviews are limited to 50 references, with at least 10% selected and annotated references from the past 2 years. References must use a numbered square-bracket citation style consistent with Vancouver numbering. References must be listed in order of appearance, use the first 6 authors followed by "et al." when there are more than 6 authors, and include brief annotations marking selected recent papers as * or ** with their significance described.
Figures & Tables Short Reviews must include no more than 4 tables or figures in total and at least one figure. Figures must be supplied as separate files, while tables are submitted within the manuscript as editable text. All figures and tables must be cited in the text, numbered in order of appearance, and accompanied by captions.

References References must be cited by number in square brackets and listed in numerical order of appearance. For references with more than 6 authors, list the first 6 authors followed by 'et al.', and abbreviate journal names according to LTWA.
Figures & Tables Figures and other artwork must be uploaded as separate files, and tables must be submitted as editable text rather than images. All tables and figures must be cited in the text, numbered consecutively in order of appearance, and provided with captions.
