Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. The cover letter must explain the paper’s significance and fit to the journal, include the specified statements confirming exclusive submission and all authors’ approval, acknowledge any prior MDPI submissions, and for expanded conference papers disclose that status and describe changes from the original paper.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for this article type. The abstract should be around 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must contain the headings Background/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript must follow a research article structure with Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and optional Conclusions, generally using IMRAD. The manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract and document any use of AI tools or large language models in the Methods section or another suitable part of the manuscript.
References References may be in any style at initial submission provided formatting is consistent throughout. References must be numbered in order of appearance, cited in square brackets before punctuation, listed individually at the end, and include complete bibliographic details including the full title.
Figures & Tables Figures and tables must be inserted in the main text close to their first citation and cited in the main text. All figures and tables must be numbered in order and accompanied by mandatory captions, with figure captions placed below figures and table captions placed above tables.

Review

Cover Letter A cover letter is required. The cover letter must explain the manuscript’s significance and fit with the journal, include the specified statement that the work is not under consideration or published elsewhere, and state that all authors approved the manuscript and agree to its submission.

Scoping Review

Abstract A structured abstract is required for Systematic Review submissions. The abstract should be around 250 words. The abstract must be structured. The abstract must include the headings Background/Objectives, Methods, Results, and Conclusions.
Manuscript The manuscript should use the same structure as research articles and include a clearly detailed Methods section. The manuscript must include 3 to 10 keywords after the abstract, and compliance with the relevant reporting guidelines must be clearly stated in the Methods section.
