Expert Opinion on Drug Safety is a MEDLINE-indexed, international subscription-based journal that publishes rigorously peer-reviewed review articles on all aspects of drug safety and original papers on the clinical implications of drug treatment safety issues. It aims to serve scientists, managers, and decision-makers in the pharmaceutical industry and others involved in monitoring drug safety, and uses double-anonymous peer review. The journal does not publish case reports, case series, or animal studies, and unsolicited disproportionality studies using FAERS or similar spontaneous reporting databases are considered only when specifically invited by the editorial team.

Review Article

Cover Letter Cover Letter requirements are not specified.
Abstract A structured abstract is required for Review Articles. Abstract must be no more than 200 words. Abstract must be structured. Abstract must cover, in order, Introduction, Areas covered, and Expert Opinion/Commentary.
Manuscript The body of the article must be no more than 7000 words. The manuscript must include Introduction, Body with numbered subsections, Conclusion placed before an additional Expert Opinion section, and the Expert Opinion section must be at least 500 words. The manuscript should include article highlights in bullet form, 4-10 keywords in alphabetical order, and a statement disclosing whether and how generative AI was used in the research and manuscript preparation process.
References Review Articles should include around 100 references. References must use NLM style. References must be numbered in order of first mention and Review Articles must include an annotated bibliography highlighting important references with a one/two-star system and brief annotations.
Figures & Tables Review Articles may include up to 5 figures and up to 5 tables. Permission documentation for reproduced previously published figures must be uploaded alongside the manuscript.

Original Research

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for complete submission. The cover letter must provide the corresponding author’s full contact details, state that the work is original and not previously published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere, confirm all authors approved the manuscript and met ICMJE conditions, include ethical approval, and disclose financial or other declarable relationships or explicitly state that none exist.

Manuscript The body of the article must include Introduction, Patients and methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. The manuscript must include 4–6 keywords in alphabetical order, an acknowledgements section with declaration of interest and relevant support or affiliations, and an author contributions statement identifying each author’s role.
References References must use NLM style. References must be numbered consecutively in order of first mention and cited in square brackets, with the reference list presented in numerical order.
Figures & Tables A maximum of five figures is permitted. Results should be presented clearly with the use of tables and figures, and the sample size of each data point must be shown.

Keywords are required in alphabetical order, and the manuscript must include a generative AI use statement.
