Submission Instructions

The Lancet Public Health accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required for first submissions of Articles. The cover letter must explain why the paper should be published in Lancet Public Health rather than elsewhere.
Abstract A semistructured abstract is required for Articles. The abstract must not exceed 250 words. The abstract must be semistructured in five paragraphs. The abstract must use the headings Background, Methods, Findings, Interpretation, and Funding.
Manuscript Articles must be up to 3500 words, or up to 4500 words for randomised controlled trials. First submissions of primary research Articles must include a research in context panel, and randomised trials must include a "Randomisation and masking" section within the Methods section. Articles must include a research in context panel with the sections "Evidence before this study", "Added value of this study", and "Implications of all the available evidence", and submitted research Articles must contain a data sharing statement at the end of the manuscript.
References Articles must have no more than 30 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation marks, with all six authors listed when there are six or fewer and the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more.
Figures & Tables First submissions should include the manuscript including tables and panels, and figures should be included with the submission. Articles reporting Kaplan-Meier survival data must include numbers at risk at each timepoint.

Review

Cover Letter A covering letter is required for first submissions. The covering letter must explain why the paper should be published in Lancet Public Health rather than elsewhere.
Abstract A 150-word unstructured summary is required. The summary must not exceed 150 words. The summary must be unstructured.
Manuscript The manuscript should be no more than 4500 words. The manuscript should include a brief section entitled "Search strategy and selection criteria". The "Search strategy and selection criteria" section must state the sources of the material covered, including databases, MeSH and free-text search terms and filters, and reference lists from journals or books, and must state the criteria used to include or exclude studies.
References The manuscript must have no more than 75 references. References must use Vancouver numbering style. References must be cited sequentially in the text as superscript numbers after punctuation marks, with all six authors listed when there are six or fewer and the first three followed by et al when there are seven or more.
