npj Aging is part of the npj Series and is published in partnership with the Japan Society of Anti-Aging Medicine. The journal publishes aging research and features articles, reviews, collections, and calls for papers on topics such as mitochondrial function, frailty, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, senescence, dietary intervention, and age-related diseases.

Npj Aging accepts the following article types. Click on an article type to view submission instructions.

Article

Cover Letter A cover letter is required with the submission. The cover letter must include the affiliation and contact information for the corresponding author.
Abstract An abstract is required. Abstract must be no more than 150 words. Abstract must be unstructured with no subheadings.
Manuscript Manuscript must include an Introduction with no subheadings, Results and Methods sections with subheadings, a Discussion with no subheadings, and all Methods in the main manuscript rather than the Supplementary Information. Manuscript must include Data availability, Code availability where applicable, Author contributions, and Competing Interests sections, and any use of a Large Language Model must be documented in the Methods or another suitable manuscript section if no Methods section is available.
References References are limited to 60. References must use Nature style. References must be numbered sequentially as they appear, list all authors unless there are more than five in which case the first author is followed by 'et al.', and include only one publication per reference number.
Figures & Tables Figure legends are limited to 350 words per figure. At initial submission, figures should be incorporated into the main article file, but figure files must also be provided individually, and tables must be placed at the end of the text document. Multi-panel figures must be presented on a single page with panels labeled using the a), b), c) convention.

References References are limited to 60. References must use standard Nature referencing style. References must be numbered sequentially as they appear, with all authors listed unless there are more than five authors, in which case the first author should be followed by 'et al.'.

Main text must have no subheadings, while the Methods section must use subheadings and be provided in the main manuscript file rather than the Supplementary Information. The manuscript must include Data availability, Code availability where applicable, Author contributions, and Competing Interests sections, and any use of a Large Language Model must be documented in the Methods section or a suitable alternative section if no Methods section is available.
References References should be around 20. References must use standard Nature referencing style. References must be numbered sequentially in order of appearance, with all authors listed unless there are more than five, in which case the first author should be followed by 'et al.'.
